Martifer Starts the Contructuion of Wind Tower Factory in Texas

Martifer Group, through Martifer Energy Systems, division for energy equipment, will start this month the construction of the tower factory in Texas, United States. The project of this new factory was presented, in a public announcement and reception in the San Angelo´s Museum of Fine Arts, by the CEO of Martifer Energy Systems, António Pontes. This is the second Wind Tower Factory the Group constructs in 4 years; it will be located in the city of San Angelo and represents a total investment of approximately 40 million dollars.

Texas Governor Rick Perry announced a $945,000 award from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) to Martifer Energy Systems LLC. “Along with other incentives, the Texas Enterprise Fund was a key determinant in our decision to locate this plant in Texas,” said António Pontes, CEO of Martifer Energy Systems.

Martifer Energy System wind tower project was also awarded a 12 million dollars incentive package provided by the COSA (City of San Angelo) and COSA DC (City of San Angelo Development Corporation.

The construction of the Wind Tower Factory will start this month and should be concluded in the 2nd half of 2009. It will create 225 jobs. In 2013 the Wind Tower Factory is expected to produce 400 towers a year. This project takes advantage from Martifer Energy Systems’ know-how and experience. Since 2004 the company develops and produces equipment for wind farms in its Wind Tower Factory in Portugal.

“We look forward to working in Texas to advance our efforts in becoming a global player in the supply of wind farm turnkey projects” referred the CEO of Martifer Energy Systems. According to António Pontes “this plant will leverage Martifer Energy Systems activity in the United States, a new market for the energy equipment business area and an enormous chance for the expansion of Martifer activities in turnkey wind farms, aligning with the Group’s strategy established for this segment”.
